Giedre & Camille

Giedre and Camille are professional jazz and contemporary dancers who bring an artistic touch to their classes. As they put it themselves: “Once we’ve embraced a playful and joyful spirit, we’re ready to connect deeply with the music and with our dance partner. ”

They focus on helping dancers feel comfortable and confident exploring movement and improvisation through playful warm-ups and essential dance movement concepts. They offer exercises to develop body awareness, create space within our bodies, and focus on understanding the exchange of momentum between two bodies.

Active listening between dance partners is a fundamental principle of their teaching. Leaders are guided to truly listen to their followers, in order to build a relationship of trust together, while followers are encouraged to take up space and express their own interpretation of the dance.

In short, their philosophy evolves around the culture of social dance: play, connection, and self-expression. Giedre and Camille strive to create a joyful and mindful dance experience for everyone.

Giedre's journey into the world of swing dance began with Lindy Hop back in early 2000. After traveling around the world learning and teaching swing dance Giedre established her base in Europe's party capital, Berlin, where she became an active member of a vibrant Balboa dance community. An educator by nature and a historian by the degree, Giedre is currently researching women’s role in early Jazz music and dance history. In her classes one should expect a fair amount of musicality, fun technical tips and lots of good ideas on improvisation for both leaders and followers.

Camille is a contemporary dancer and choreographer. He teaches Balboa from his experience of body awareness, movement experimentation and improvisation. Expect a less conventional approach to learning couple dance, with balance and visualisation techniques, emphasising understanding your own body to open your connection to the ground, to your partner and to the music.
